This is an easy, everyday apple cake with warm spice and a tender crumb, finished with a simple cream cheese icing. It will make your home smell heavenly and leave your tummy extra happy.

Apple Cake
  • 3 2/3 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon apple pie spice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cane sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 apples, grated
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vanilla
Cream Cheese Icing
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 stick butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

Apple Cake

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F. Grease and line a 9×13 pan with parchment.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, apple pie spice, salt, cane sugar, and brown sugar.
  3. Add the grated apples and stir until they’re coated in the dry mixture.
  4. Pour in the buttermilk, melted butter, oil, Greek yogurt, and vanilla. Stir just until everything is combined.
  5. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cream Cheese Icing

  1. Beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
  2. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla and mix until creamy.
  3. Spread evenly over the cooled cake.
